11 Pop Culture Memorials from Around the World

9 April 2009 WRITTEN BY: Rich 12 Comments

Forever frozen in time and sometimes covered in bird poop, here are 11 of our favorite statues, busts and artistic expressions of musicians who have impacted pop culture. We went to 11 because we just wanted that extra…umph. If you have one you’d like to add, please add a comment.

While there are many Bob Marley statues in Jamaica and throughout the world, we choose this statue because the Croats and Serbs gathered together to erect a statue as a symbol of peace, tolerance, and healing after a few war torn years within the region. Again, with The Beatles, there are so many pieces to choose from, but this is the one that we like the best.

I say you went with 11 just like in the move Spinal Tap, there amps went to 11 because other bands went to only 10!

Alan – You are correct… Spinal Tap was for rock what The Sound of Music was for hills.

Inside Central Park at Strawberry Fields, there is a John Lennon Memorial. It’s apparently an area that Lennon went to often, and is just inside the park from where his apartment was.

    I love Bob Marley too!

Great. Some of those I didn’t know about.

Just thought you should know that Jim Morrison’s grave no longer looks like that. The family changed it to a simple tombstone. I believe the Hard Rock café has the bust from it.

It hasn’t been that way (as illustrated in the photograph) for over 10 years. On a visit to France I was disapointed by his grave… but not by the cemetery. That is worth the visit.. Pere LeChaise (sp?).

But I did enjoy your post anyway, some of those I wasn’t even aware of!

    Thank you.
