Truly a magical and romantic slice of the Earth. We stayed in Vernazza and traveled to all five villages. I would highly recommend staying in Vernazza - it's large enough that there is plenty to do and it is a little bit less touristy then Monterosso. My wife and I got engaged in The Cinque Terra. The local wine co-op impressed me with their white varietal, as did La Smorfia pizzeria in a back alley of the old town. The pizza was probably the best we had in Italy.
