I'm living in Stockholm and it's a beautiful city often overlooked. If you want a metropolitan experience but also like the outdoors, this is a great place to visit! I also just did a trip to the Swiss Alps hiking and it was definitely worth every penny! Also Saranda,Albania has nice beaches. There are some small islands where you can take the boat or even swim to them. The colours and the clarity of the water is so amazing. The Harz Mountains -- were on the border between East and West Germany, so almost off limits to everyone. The steam train to the top of the Brocken is one of Germany's best kept secrets. Pecs - Small Hungarian city near Lake Balaton. Beautiful old town; little visited by English-speakers. I’d add the following to the list:

I've been to Bled and Cesky Krumlov and loved both. I agree with Ann, though, that CK is not really off the beaten path anymore. There are a lot of tourists there year round. The people there are lovely, very helpful and chatty. There are lots of places to discover there, if you go go to Lake Bohing as well, hire a car its a lot easier to get around.
