Cart Around Belize

belize-golf-cartsWhile you won’t see any golf courses on Belize’s Ambergris Caye or Caye Caulker, you will see plenty of golf carts. That’s because in Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker, electric and gas powered golf carts are the primary mode of transportation. Visitors can rent a cart by simply showing a valid driver’s license. We ended up renting one on a few different days and covered just about every nook and cranny discovering remote docks and beaches. I have a very vivid memory of stumbling across a beautiful beach on Ambergris Caye that had a slide and a few other playground pieces in the shallow water. This beach is where I took one of my all-time favorite pictures of two local kids riding their bikes through the shallow water on the beach. Another day, we drove our golf cart as far south as we could and then explored a trail that lead us near and around the water. On Ambergris Caye, if you have a gas powered cart, you can cross the bridge after paying a small toll to explore the sandy road on the north end of the island.
