Have You Ever Been to Hell?

hell-grand-cayman-mainHell, located in northwest Grand Cayman, is a group of iron shore rocks that are over a million years old. The weathered limestone formations, usually found around the coast line, cover a space roughly the size of a football field and indicate that the area was once under water. Visitors are able to view the formations from two viewing platforms, but wandering among the formations is prohibited. There are many versions of how the area first came to be called Hell. However it came to be, the name stuck and the area has become a tourist attraction, featuring a gift shop and a post office where visitors can send postcards to friends and family from “hell.”
