swimming-with-dolphinsDolphins have been fascinating people for thousands of years with their beauty and grace along with their elusive sense of intelligence. Swimming with dolphins, an activity available in travel destinations around the world, is something that many people dream of and has become one of the most popular and talked about travel activities there is. There are a wide variety of interactive dolphin programs and activities available offering swimming experiences both fun and educational. While each tour operator has their own particular way of presenting their activities, most programs include direct contact with the dolphins as well as the opportunity to take the dolphin by its fin while skimming through the water.

A few general rules for swimming with dolphins include removing all jewelry, watches and eye glasses as a dolphin’s skin is easily scratched. Also, make sure your nails are cut short and that your bathing suit does not have a zipper. Do not touch the dolphins unless the trainer indicates that you can and never touch a dolphin’s head, especially the area around their eyes.

Here are a few places where travelers can get closer to dolphins than they ever dreamed:

Akaroa, New Zealand

Kaikoura, New Zealand

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

Cozumel, Mexico

Cancun, Mexico
