Asakusa is great. It *is* very touristy, but it's a real buzz - so many different sounds and smells to take in, stalls selling hundreds of different types of green tea right next to tables laden with dried fish, next to tiny pavement cafes with families huddling over steaming tea and cartons of food. After you pass through the gate, don't forget to look up! There's a bewildering array of neon signs and lanterns and flags hanging above you, and when I was there many of the vendors had hung dozens of huge fake cherry blossom branches from their balconies and windows. Just outside the temple are a whole heap of food stalls; here's one that caught my eye - bananas on sticks, dipped in pink chocolate and covered in sprinkles - very Japanese.

Thanks Chris, you've just made me want to go back to Tokyo :)
