Last week, South African Airways announced that they will start operating non-stop flights from Johannesburg to New York. The move now makes them the fastest way to get from Southern Africa to The Big Apple.
For years, the flight from Johannesburg to New York has made a 1 hour refueling stop in Dakar, Senegal. Having taken this flight before, on more than one occasion I was extremely delayed getting into Dakar and the stop ended up adding many hours to my journey. The new flight schedule will result in much shorter travel times and allow even easier connections from throughout more of Africa.
Starting May 1st, the updated schedule for SAA’s daily service between New York and Johannesburg is as follows:
- SA203 – Johannesburg/New York, departs Johannesburg at 8:35 p.m., arrives in New York at 6:40 a.m. the following day.
- SA204 – New York/Johannesburg, departs New York at 11:15 a.m., arrives in Johannesburg at 8:40 a.m. the following day.
