Travel Tips for Argentina

Submitted by on April 12, 2011 – 9:36 am4 Comments

Argentina is the huge country which occupies a good part of South America. This country is one of the most popular destinations for backpackers because it has a wonderful mix of urban jungles and natural landscape. Here are some travel tips for anyone thinking of traveling to Argentina.

How to get to Argentina

If you are traveling to Argentina from far away, I would recommend booking airline tickets to Buenos Aires Ministro Pistarini International Airport. This is the main point of arrival for international flights so you are much more likely to find cheap tickets to this hub. From here you can travel around the country by bus (it will take a long time) or by booking low cost flights with an Argentine airline.

Buenos Aires

This is a relatively safe city…..however, like most big cities you should be careful of your belongings. Try not to draw attention to yourself by wearing fancy jewellery or designer clothes. These sorts of things stand out big style in South America. You only need a few days to discover Buenos Aires before moving on….

Combine a city break with an adventure

The things that I love the most about South America are the areas of natural beauty. Do not just visit Buenos Aires….you have to get out and discover the Iguazu Falls or the Patagonia.

Most travelers are granted a 90 day tourist visa on arrival….however, you should check out what the requirements are at the Argentine Embassy in your country.

Dos and don’ts

Do tip in restaurants…..it is nice to leave about 10% of the bill but most locals just leave some spare change. Don’t walk around at night by yourself in Buenos Aires. Remember that you will most likely be charged transaction fees when withdrawing money at an ATM.

  • That is a gorgeous location! If I ever…uhem WHEN I go to Argentina, I will definitely go to Patagonia! I haven’t had the chance to visit Argentina yet, but I can only imagine what the landscape looks like. Nature lover’s dream I’m sure! I am actually entirely fascinated by the aspect of travel and food. What’s the cuisine like? Do you find that there are many similarities or differences amongst northern and southern Argentinians in terms of food and culture? I hope one day I’ll find out for myself!
