Doing Business Around the World

How people from various cultures perceive information and negotiate business deals can differ a great deal. The best way to avoid potentially embarrassing and costly miscues when dealing with foreign cultures is to be prepared. One of the most important things to remember is that from the moment you step off the plane in a [...]

How To Keep Your Money Safe While Traveling

Diversify, diversify, diversify. Bring cash, plastic and traveler’s checks. ATM machines are available the world over and work well. Debit Cards have security issues; if your number and PIN are hacked, say goodbye to that hard-won $ in your account. Cashing back on credit cards will hit you with interest that can pile up quickly if you are not careful. Keep in mind that the advice here is to bring it all. Use the safest the most frequently. Be aware of which financial tool you are using what for.

Velvet Escape – go explore. experience. and be inspired.

Velvet Escape. To me, these words evoke a feeling of liberating oneself from the usual routine and venturing off to a calmer place. You could be on the harrowing streets of Hong Kong and still feel this sense of peace simply because you are leaping out of the daily grind. Reading the Velvet Escape Blog transports the reader to unique places and inspires the travel bug. I particularly enjoy reading the “A World of Inspiration” posts. Each of these weekly posts shares an inspiring story of a person who deeply touched the writer’s life in some significant and memorable way while traveling.

10 Best Charter Sailing Vacation Spots

Ah, sailing the clear blue sea. The perfect escape from daily life. Can you feel the warm breeze washing over your body and clearing your head just thinking about it? I dream of silently gliding past a picturesque coast under sail in a perfect breeze and gazing out to the horizon. I also dream of laying peacefully at anchor with a star filled sky silently overhead as the moon cuts a glittery path across the water.

Beers from Around the World

Good beer is, in general, pretty easy to find while traveling around the world. I know, there are countries that prohibit the consumption of alcohol for religious reasons, but alcohol is usually still available in the hotels. While I don’t necessarily travel the world in search of the next great glass of beer, there’s no question that a relationship exists between the drink and the place. One might even suggest that a night out drinking beer is a way of tapping into a side of a country that you may not have seen otherwise.

Robben Island

Robben Island

Certain places in the world are old to humanity. Standing in Istanbul or Jerusalem, one is struck by the history of these locations and by the knowledge that even before the first histories were written, these places were well known by humanity. Other places, like Robben Island, have always been isolated, far off, and, for the greater part of history, at the very edge of the world. The Cape of Good Hope was once known as the Cape of Storms and many European ships were smashed against its rocky shores. This island is a short, half hour ferry ride from the bustling waterfront of gorgeous Cape Town over less than 10 kilometers of ocean with an extremely high concentration of great white sharks.

10 Things to Do in New York City’s Greenwich Village & Vicinity

In New York City, the small area below 14th Street and north of Houston Street, known as Greenwich Village, has been a Mecca to the creative, rebellious and Bohemian. Greenwich Village is where Jimi Hendrix built the Electric Lady sound studios and Andy Warhol and Lou Reed created the citadel of Hippiedom at the Electric [...]

I saw this over the weekend on Current TV. Padraic O’Meara hits the streets of Cape Town to see what summer style means in the Southern Hemisphere.
